Queen Elizabeth II’s death came after Her Late Majesty’s achievement of 70 years reigning, which was marked this year by her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

King Charles III inherits the headship of the Commonwealth, which flourished under Her Late Majesty and just this year welcomed two new members that were once French colonies.

The Queen’s effectiveness as a unifier for the Commonwealth is reflected by the many heartfelt tributes from Commonwealth leaders and the many floral tributes and notes of condolences written by citizens across the Commonwealth, from Buckingham Palace to Sydney to elsewhere, as well as online in the case of condolence messages.

The new King has received Commonwealth heads of government over the past few days who have offered their condolences.

Continuity is the name of the game, with King Charles III immediately succeeding the late Queen Elizabeth II. However, Elizabeth II’s legacy is only evident through the deep appreciation with which she is widely held.
