There are a few things I think Boris deserves credit for. Like you said, he did complete Brexit, though issues remain regarding the N.I. protocol. He also reoriented Britain back to its traditional position as a globally-centred nation as opposed to one more focused on mainland Europe (AUKUS and the Australia-Britain free trade & movement deal being two that stand out to me, naturally).

At the end of the day, however, he reached his use-by date and there was good reason as you pointed out for a successor to be sought.
